Flowers have seduced and captivated people for centuries. This alluring nature of flowers beauty is found in numerous examples of flowers in mythology around the world. Mythology from Greek, Roman, Chinese and India has multitudes of references to the beauty of flowers. Greek or Roman mythology has dozen of examples of flowers and symbolism attesting to their captivating powers.

In Greek mythology Narcissus was believed to be a very handsome character . After some unsuspecting maiden would fall in love with him, he passed them off without regard. The gods punished Narcissus for treating women this way by forced him to fall in love with his own reflection. He so admired his reflection that he reached out to embrace it and drowned. A flower known as the narcissus grew in the exact place where he died and became a symbol of selfishness and hardheartedness.

The Greek myth of Adonis is said to tell of the making of a beautiful red flower known as anemone. Adonis was a young handsome man who was a lover to the goddess of love, Aphrodite. The myth tells of Adonis becoming mortally wounded while on a hunting mission. Aphrodite his goddess lover comes to his side as he is dying, although is to late and watches him bleed to death. The blood that Adonis shed turned into the flowers we now know as anemone.

The goddess of floral in Roman mythology is Flora, and is known as Chloris in Greek mythology.
It is said, the goddess of floral scattered flowers all over the world which is how these captivating and seductive beauties are in every corner of the globe.

Since the ancient years, Myths have always been an indispensable part of culture around the world. Civilizations would creating myths to justify and explain something they could not understand, the birth of flowers and animals, things that happened in nature, the good or bad luck and anything they wanted to glorify and commemorate.
